Those We Love

I don't have time to make a card in the next day or two, but I realized I didn't post this one which I made for several SCS challenges last week - it was a tribute to Pam (bailmac) who was Queen for the Day!  Pam is such a sweetheart, it was a real pleasure to make a card inspired by one of hers.  I used a Hero Arts stamp for the black silhouettes and punched flowers in a color similar to SU's Bermuda Bay.  The black border is MFT's faux crochet Die-namic - I love it!  The sentiment is from Stampendous - I think this one is unusual but very meaningful and could be used to encourage someone going through a hard time - I could imagine giving this to a loved one to tell them that I would "be there" for them in the middle of dark days.
Other supplies: pearls, Spellbinders Butterflies 2, twine (The Twinery), Echo Park Summer Fun, DCWV Nana's Nursery dp, Versafine Black Onyx ink

Rose Blossom Sweet Peek

I'm very excited today to post my first card as a Sweet and Sassy Stamps Design Diva, a Sweet Peek for their new June Release of Rose Blossom!   Along with the rose are beautiful sentiments reflecting the joys of friendship - I used two of those today, creating a little tag with one.  The circles were cut with Nestabilities Circles and Lacy Circles, and I used Basic Grey Olivia , Memory Box, and My Minds Eye dp.  The large scallops are cut with an MFT Die-namic.  Ribbon and black and white twine from The Twinery are the finishing touches.  If you'd like to see what the other Design Diva's have created with this set, pop over to Sweet and Sassy Stamps blog.

Lookin' Pretty

I used today's sketch at SCS to ink up a new stamp from Lily of the Valley - I bought it with this Bible verse in mind - remember the days when it was fun to look in the mirror?!  This image illustrates to me the self acceptance of a child before all the hang ups and inhibitions about who we are and what we look like kick in!  And this verse reminds me to thank God for who He made me to be -  that's usually an act of the will  instead of something I feel like doing!  But I'm very thankful for any creative DNA he's built into me, since I get so much joy from that side of life!
Card Details:
Spellbinders Nestabilities Circles, Rectangles
My Minds Eye, Echo Park dp
Lily of the Valley image
buttons, seam binding
Twine (The Twinery)

Friday 20 May 2011

This was made to honor Joanne (sleepyinseattle) at SCS who is Friday's Queen for the Day and also to meet a challenge to use opposite colors on the color wheel - I love using red and green together, and not just for Christmas!
Supplies:
SU Real Red, Old Olive, Basic Black cardstock
My Minds Eye, DCWV dp
Twine (The Twinery), brads, button, Spellbinders Nestabilities Petite Ovals, Rectangles, copics

Penguin Rock Chicks!

This card was made for a SCS challenge to use music - the penguins are from The Cat's Pajama's, and the music stamp is from October Afternoon.  The dp is Olivia from Basic Grey.  I used Spellbinders Nestabilities Circles and Stars for cutting out the layers and added some star mini buttons and twine.  The dots around the sentiment were done with a black fine line marker.   A fun card to make and hopefully to receive!

We're His Sheep

This is based on a sketch at SCS this week.  This cute little Sugar Nellie image brought to mind immediately this verse from the Psalms which says, "Know that the Lord is God.  It is He who made us, and we are the sheep of His pasture."  Psalm 100:3  I hated to shorten the verse for the purposes of fitting on the card since the first two phrases are so powerful.  What a difference it can make to life to "know" for sure that the Lord IS God - He's in control and not only that, He also created us so He know exactly what we need and what's best for us and will ALWAYS do it.  This little girl tenderly feeding the lamb is a good illustration of His care!

Every Good Gift

The CAS challenge at SCS was to be inspired by the word "gift" and the first thing that came to my mind was this Bible verse which goes on to say..."coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows."  There seems to be a direct comparison between God who NEVER changes, and who is consistently good and generous with His gift giving, and the sun and moon, which continually shift through night and day, season after season, creating ever changing shadows.  These words also remind me to look up and recognize the Source of every blessing in my life.
I used SU's cherry cobbler for the card base and Memory box dp.  I dyed and "shabby-fied" seam binding a leaf green with copic ink to add to SU's cherry cobbler seam binding.  A big thanks to Tammy (stampertammy) for her great advice on how to do this!  The verse is computer generated using Albemarle Demo and Albemarle Swash fonts.

Sweet and Sassy For the Guys Blog Hop

This is a card made for my first ever blog hop!  Over at Sweet and Sassy Stamps this weekend it's time to create For the Guys.  I colored Cocoa's Baseball Cap with copics and used a Nestie Circle for cutting.  The sentiment is also SNSS and cut with Nesties Ovals.  To finish I added some mini star buttons, twine and a couple of stars cut with Nesties - I used the two smallest star dies together and punched holes at the top to make little star frame tags.  The dp is Echo Park, Memory Box and DCWV.  Cardstock is SU's Real Red and Taken with Teal.

Sheer Joy!

Today's CAS challenge at SCS is to use banners - a happy banner seemed perfect to go with this little digi from Mo Manning (mo'sdigitalpencil.com) called Anglelina's balloons - this little cutie says something to me - don't forget to find joy in the small thing in life!  She's colored with copics, cut with Nestabilities Petite Ovals, and sponged with SU's Cool Caribbean while still in the die.  The dp is by Memory Box.

Crown of Splendour

Today is the Featured Stamper challenge at SCS and I used a card by Jo (Reddyisco) as inspiration for this.  I want to also give credit to Bev Barton for this crown which was on a beautiful card sent to me, and every time I looked at it I thought of this Bible verse, which has been computer generated.  The Lord is talking to His children here - it amazes me to think that we're something beautiful in His hand because of what Jesus has done!

My Refuge

The Featured Stamper today at SCS is Susan (Lateblossom) - I have to admit that my natural style is probably not clean and simple, so I love being able to be inspired by someone who does it so well!  The image is from Hero Arts and I used Ranger Distress Shabby Shutters and SU Melon Mambo inks.  I used a toothbrush to spatter ink and added a border with a fine line marker, after sponging across the bottom of the panel.
This verse is very meaningful to me lately as I've felt worries and concerns weighing me down - the Lord is my refuge in those worries - these words remind me that there is rest in His shadow because He is not just Almighty, He is the Almighty!
